What it does

One app between your monitor and your headset

Capture, projection, depth and input — the whole path from a flat window to a screen you can reach out and place.

Real-time 3D depth

ReShade depth buffers or an on-device AI depth model turn the flat image into a stereoscopic field — a genuinely volumetric picture, not a flat plane hanging in space. Whichever source you use, the stereo pair is built by the same warp, calibrated to your screen size and eye distance.

Screen positioning

Grab the screen with your controllers to move, scale and curve it. Set the distance and size that feel right, then save the placement.

VR controller mouse

Point, click and drag the real Windows cursor with your controller's laser and trigger — manage the game and the desktop without lifting the headset.

Virtual monitor engine

Spawn a display up to 4K @ 120 Hz in any aspect ratio, square ones included. Make it primary, then restore your real monitor with one click.

AR glasses & head tracking

Plug-and-play SBS / TAB output for Xreal, Rokid and Viture, plus a head-locked mode that keeps the screen in front of you as you turn.

Ultra-low overhead

Low-level capture hooks with zero-copy texture transfer. The game keeps its frame rate — FlatVR borrows the frames on their way to the screen rather than standing in the middle of them.

Blur & Ambilight

Colours from the edge of the screen are smeared outwards into the dark, so the picture stops feeling boxed-in — the cheapest immersion win in the app.

ReShade native depth

FlatVR reads the game's own depth buffer through ReShade, so the geometry is exactly what the engine rendered. The sharpest and most stable 3D you can get from a flat game.

Works everywhere

AI 3D depth

A neural depth estimator runs on your GPU and infers a depth map from the picture itself. No depth buffer required — works with games, videos and anything else on screen.

Native stereo

Stereoscopic SBS / TAB

Already using a stereoscopic wrapper? FlatVR splits the side-by-side or top-and-bottom frame and sends each half to the matching eye for true two-camera 3D.

The interface

Everything in one window

Choose the source, pick a depth mode, watch the stats. Each tab on the left is one part of the picture: where the screen hangs, how it blurs at the edges, where depth comes from. The performance panel shows the game's frame rate, the VR render rate and how long each depth inference actually takes.

Running in three steps

No game files are touched — FlatVR sits beside the game, not inside it.

Pick the source

Hit Refresh Window/Monitor List and choose the running game window or a whole physical monitor. Videos, emulators and desktop apps work the same way.

Or create a virtual monitor recommended

Spawn a virtual display, make it primary and launch the game there. It lifts the 60 Hz capture ceiling and allows square, VR-friendly resolutions your real monitor cannot do.

Press Start

Choose a depth mode and the screen appears in VR. Reposition it with your controllers, recenter with F7, and tune everything without taking the headset off.

Questions

Which headsets work?

Any PCVR headset that speaks SteamVR or OpenXR — Quest over Link, Virtual Desktop or Steam Link, Index, Pico, Reverb, Bigscreen Beyond and the rest. AR glasses such as Xreal, Rokid and Viture are supported through the SBS / TAB output instead.

Does it modify game files?

No. FlatVR captures the window or display the game is already drawing to and projects it into VR. Nothing is injected into the game itself. ReShade depth mode is the one exception, and there ReShade — not FlatVR — is what you install.

Will it cost me frame rate?

Capture is zero-copy, so the game keeps rendering at full speed. AI depth mode does run a model on your GPU, and its cost is shown live in the app as inference time — ReShade depth and plain flat projection have essentially no depth cost at all.

What do I need to run it?

Windows 10 or 11 (x64) and a DX11 or DX12 game. AI depth runs through DirectML, which on Windows means practically any modern discrete GPU.

How is it licensed?

One $10 purchase, every future update included. An itch.io licence covers up to 3 device activations; a Steam purchase follows Steam's own policy, so the app is tied to your Steam account rather than to a number of devices. The free download is the same build with a session timer on the depth modes.
